Selma Sabanovic
The School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering has announced that Selma Sabanovic, an associate professor of informatics, has been named associate dean for graduate education.
Sabanovic holds a Ph.D. in science and technology studies from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and has been a professor at SICE since 2009. Her research focuses on human-robot interaction and the understanding of how social and cultural factors influence the design of robotics. Her work has been funded by the National Science Foundation, and she founded and directs the R-House Laboratory for Human-Robot Interaction research at IU.
“Selma’s dedication to students and her vision for their success make her the perfect candidate to lead our graduate education programs,” said Raj Acharya, dean of SICE. “She will take on overall responsibility for all graduate programs at SICE, and we’re thrilled she has accepted this pivotal role.”
SICE offers graduate-level degree programs in informatics, computer science, information and library science, intelligent systems engineering, and data science.
“I am very excited for this new opportunity to work with staff, faculty, and students across SICE as we continue to improve the excellence and variety of our programs and to foster an inclusive community in the School,” Sabanovic said. “Since my first days here, I’ve been amazed by the disciplinary diversity and creative energy in the School, and I look forward to helping channel it into new graduate program initiatives. This is also an invaluable opportunity to turn my passion for working with graduate students to building institutional infrastructures in which they can thrive and make their own unique contributions to SICE and the world.”
